Local and international opportunities for research in conservation biology

elephant babyThe Conservation Program at the Houston Zoo is a great way for students to get involved in field conservation projectsin Texas and throughout the world.  Rice graduate and undergraduate students may apply to participate in Houston Zoo projects or to work with Houston Zoo associates on a project by project basis. In general students will be responsible for the costs of their own travel, housing, and other related expenses.  Applications from students to participate with Houston Zoo staff on such projects will be made through the Houston Zoo's conservation committee.

giraffeThe Houston Zoo's major concern is the preservation of biological diversity, the survival of species, and their natural habitats. Whether the species are rare, endangered or even common, or they reside in shrinking forests or vast untouched regions, our goal is to help sustain their populations and to preserve as much of the natural world as possible in doing so. To achieve these goals, the Houston Zoo supports projects in regions known as Hotspots and Wilderness Areas, and works with a large number of local and international partners
